about

"Get yourself a trio, Erlend."

These were the words spoken by the legendary Svein Finnerud to a young Erlend Skomsvoll in 1991.

Since then, Erlend Skomsvoll has established himself as an exceptional interpreter of others' music, as an arranger and orchestra leader, collaborating with luminaries such as Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, Kaizers Orchestra, Mathias Eick, Marius Neset, Arve Tellefsen, The Norwegian Wind Ensemble, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, Ensemble Allegria, and many more.

His contributions to the output of acclaimed group Come Shine, where he showcased his piano skills and served as a central arranger, are particularly noteworthy.

Skomsvoll has been honoured with Norwegian Grammy Awards in both jazz and classical music, and notably, the Buddy Award.

As the musical director and creative mind behind the successful concerts in Elbphilharmonie during Elb Jazz with Marius Neset in 2023 and Mathias Eick in 2022, Skomsvoll has repeatedly proven his ability to captivate audiences with his innovative approach.

However, he has never had the opportunity to fully immerse himself in the piano trio format.

Now, Skomsvoll has cleared his schedule, temporarily stepping away from composing for large orchestras, and dedicated all his time and creativity to piano playing and trio work.

Joining him on this musical journey are the exceptional double bassist Roger Morland and drummer Knut Aalefjær. Together, they seamlessly blend their deep understanding of jazz and classical styles at an elevated artistic level. This collaboration not only forms a tight and refined jazz ensemble but also allows Skomsvoll to infuse the harmonic and melodic phrasing of classical music into his already rich jazz musical expression.

Their partnership began with a COVID-restricted concert featuring Marius Neset and The Norwegian Wind Ensemble in 2021, and since then, the trio has regularly convened to develop a distinctive musical voice.
With "Noshk Blues" you have the opportunity to witness this formidable interpreter perform his own music, finally in a trio format!

With evocative titles such as "Male tangentene dine," "Her står jeg og der står du," "Måkkebøkke," "Rimfrost," and a plethora of other creative, beautiful, heartfelt, and sometimes groovy compositions.
